Johila River is the main river of Madhya Pradesh. Johila river is a tributary of Son river. Johila river originates from Amarkantak district in Madhya Pradesh. Many rivers have originated in Amarkantak district, in which Johila river is also prominent. The origin of the Johila river is about 10 kilometers away from the main Amarkantak town in Swayambhu Jaleshwar Dham. Swayambhu Jaleshwar Dham is located on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This place is surrounded by forest from all sides and is very beautiful.

Here you can come to roam comfortably. You can reach here by road. Here you can come by bike and car. Here you will get to see the temple of Lord Shiva and you will get to see a well from which the Johila river has originated.

Shri Jaleshwar Dham is very beautiful. Here you get to see Lord Shiva shivlinga. This shivlinga is Swayambhu, that is, he is self-born from the earth. This Shivling is known as Jaleshwar Shivling. Here you get see idols of Lord Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesh.  A tomb of a Saint Mahatma will also you get to see here.

This place is very beautiful. Annapurna temple is also built here. It feels good to come here. This place is related to the mythological period. It is believed that Johila used to be a friend of Narmada maiya  but there was a rift in their relation. Due to which Narmada ji got angry and started flowing in the opposite direction.

You will get to see a well in Shri Jaleshwar Dham temple complex. Johila river has originated from this well. The water of this well is pure and clean. The water of this well is transparent. You can drink this water and take it home in a bottle with you. Here the Johila river is not seen flowing. A little far away from the temple a pond is found inside the forest from where the Johila river starts flowing.

The confluence of the Johila river with the Son river takes place in Umaria district. Son river and Johila river confluence in Kelhari village of Umaria district and the journey of Johila river ends. This confluence site is very beautiful. Here you get to see the sand field. There is also a ghat built here, which is called Dashrath Ghat and the temple of Lord Kartikeya is also found here. A fair is also held here once a year.

Johila River, Narmada River and Son River have mythological significance. According to people, Johila was the maidservant of Narmada. The marriage of Narmada and Son was fixed.

Narmada wanted to see our husband Sone. So he sent Johila to meet  the king Sone. Johila went to meet Raja Son wearing Narmada's ornaments and clothes and Raja Son liked Johila as Narmada and married her for love. When Narmada Maiya came to know about this, Narmada Maiya cursed Son and Johila and went towards the east.

In this way Narmada river flows from east to west and joins Arabian Sea and Son river joins Ganges and Johila river joins Son river. The confluence of Son and Johila takes place.
